As a self-employed single mom with two young children Desiree Shank, has experienced firsthand the frustration of wanting to give her children the world while living on a limited budget. A college education, though it seems so far off, was her biggest worry. With the cost to attend college rising each year, she wondered if she would be able to give her children an education free of the burden of debt.
That is why she decided to start Future College Fund. Future College Fund is a website similar to Kickstarter, but instead of asking others to fund a business, users ask loved ones to fund their child’s future with the money they would normally spend on birthday and holiday presents. This allows friends and family to give children the gift of education – something more meaningful than just toys or clothes they would grow out of in a year or two.
Joining Future College Fund is free. Once you sign up, you can create a campaign web page for your child. As important milestones come up – birthdays, holidays, graduations, etc. – you can send the campaign link to your friends and family and encourage them to donate in lieu of giving physical gifts. You can update the page with new photos of your child and his or her dreams for the future.
Desiree understand that the most important part of being a parent is making the best decisions for your family. That is why Future College Fund gives you the flexibility of choosing what type of bank account you’d like to use for your child’s college fund. All of the donations you receive will be deposited into your PayPal account. From there, you can transfer the donations into your designated savings account. Then, when you’re faced with making that first tuition payment, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that the funds are completely accessible in the account that worked best for you.
When parents create campaigns for their children on Future College Fund it relieves the fears of whether or not they can afford their children’s education. Desiree’s mission through Future College Fund is to help parents experience some relief and to feel confident about sending their child(ren) to college one day.
