Boy Scouts takes Single Moms Planet Camping!
At 6:30 a.m., moms with their sons in tow, arrive at the beautiful Long Beach dock to board our private charter boat to Camp Emerald Bay, located on Catalina Island. This amazing trip was sponsored by The Boy Scouts of America.
Our boys and girls were greeted by our new favorite person, veteran camp leader James Graham. Despite the fact that it’s 6:30 in the morning, the children are bursting at the seems with energy as they wait in line to board the boat to take them on their first big summer adventure.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations, providing programs for young people that build character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and develops personal fitness. For more than 100 years, Boy Scouts of America has helped build future leaders by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun with multiple programs that are sure to be a fit for you and your children.
Cub Scouts: For boys 7-10 years old or Grades 1-5, Cub Scouting is the foundation of our organization and involves the whole family as parents pitch in to plan and deliver activities.
Boy Scouts: For boys 11-17 years old, this is the traditional Scouting experience for young men. While there’s guidance from experienced leaders, Boy Scouts take their own lead, exploring places they’ve never been as they dive into the rugged world of outdoor adventure.
Venturing: Venturing is a coed program for young adults ages 13 (and have completed the 8th grade) through 20. Venturing’s motto, “Lead the Adventure,” reminds Venturers to always pursue life in the spirit of adventure.
Here is a little about Camp Emerald Bay. This Island literally took our breath away. Located on scenic Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California. They serve over 7,000 people in one year with a variety of opportunities both fun and educational.
Camp Emerald Bay is committed to providing experiences that build character, foster citizenship, and provide for personal growth through challenging and stimulating programs.
Their summertime opportunities are centered on programs for the Boy Scouts of America. They recognize the value of summer camp as a catalyst to fulfill the goals and aspirations established by Boy Scout Troop leadership.
We are forever grateful to The Boy Scouts and Camp Emerald Bay for showing our members and their children such a fantastic time. A very special thank you to Lee Harrison, Chief Operating Officer of the Boy Scouts of America, Western Los Angeles County Council and David Ford of Southern, California Edison for making this amazing adventure possible for our moms and their children.
